All You Need to Know

Are you sick of using contacts or glasses? Are you hoping to improve your quality of life with a long-term fix? Perhaps LASIK surgery is the ideal remedy.

You will have a brief recovery period following this minimally invasive surgery and be able to enjoy long-lasting, corrected vision. Our doctors at Art of Optiks are available to perform a number of tests and analyze your medical history during your LASIK consultation in order to assess your suitability for the procedure. In order to provide the best possible care for their everyday needs, we want our patients to feel at ease and see clearly. If you’ve been considering LASIK surgery but are unclear about where to begin, schedule a LASIK consultation during your comprehensive eye exam to learn everything you need to know.

The team at Art of Optiks works hard to give each patient exceptional LASIK consultations in order to fully assess your candidacy. To find the most comfortable vision solution for your particular lifestyle, our experts will examine all aspects of your eyes and get to know you personally. With our many years of experience in the eyecare field, Art of Optiks will offer you a captivating and informative experience to fulfill all of your LASIK requirements.

What is LASIK?

For those who are above 18, laser in-situ keratomileusis, or LASIK, is a permanent vision correction procedure. Your LASIK surgeon will reshape your cornea during this procedure to improve the efficiency with which light concentrates on the retina at the rear of your eye. During your thorough eye exam, you can express your interest in LASIK surgery. Our doctors will then conduct a LASIK consultation to see if you qualify for the procedure. LASIK is frequently used to treat the following refractive defects in vision correction:

  • Nearsightedness or Myopia: Objects that are close to you appear clear, but objects farther away are blurry.
  • Farsightedness or Hyperopia: Objects that are farther away from you appear clear, but objects closer are blurry.
  • Astigmatism: Due to the irregular shape of your eye, most objects are blurry, meaning you struggle to see clearly in almost all situations.

Your LASIK surgeon will numb your eyes and use a laser to create a small flap in your cornea. The procedure is painless and can be completed in as little as 20 minutes. The tissue behind the flap will be reshaped with a second laser before the flap is reinstalled. You may experience dry eyes after surgery; to keep your eyes moist and avoid infection and inflammation, you will be prescribed eye drops. Most patients notice improved vision within a few days of starting the relatively short recovery process.

Patient Background + History

After examining your medical history, background as a patient, and numerous other aspects, our doctors will decide if you are a good fit. Your entire health and eligibility for LASIK surgery depend heavily on your medical history. Accurate information is required from interested patients in order for our doctors to be aware of any underlying illnesses that need to be noted and taken into consideration. These fundamental criteria consist of, but are not restricted to:

  • Family History or Current of Systemic or Eye Pathology
  • Allergies to Any Medications
  • Environmental Conditions Impacting Your Vision or Ocular Health

In order to make sure our specialists are appropriately assessing your suitability for LASIK surgery, they check your medical background and history. It’s critical that accurate information be given during this part of your meeting, and that any personal hesitations or concerns be addressed.

Analysis of the Overall Health of Your Eyes

In order to assess your candidacy further during your LASIK appointment, our doctors will perform a series of comprehensive testing. Some of the tests may be familiar to you as you’ve probably had a thorough eye exam in the past, while others will be unfamiliar. During the whole visit, our doctors will be by your side to ensure that you feel comfortable, explain the purpose of each test, address any concerns you may have, and go over your results in detail.

Ability to Focus

If you wear contacts or glasses, you have probably already gone through some of the tests that our specialists will do. The issues affecting your eyesight quality and your eye’s ability to focus will be examined by our physicians. Our specialists will use this data to identify the best course of action for correcting your eyesight. Your vision will be assessed using a variety of manual refraction tests, including the well-known “Pick One or Two” test, in multiple ways. Additionally, measurements will be made using digital analyzers to corroborate the results of the manual refraction. Digital analyzers will also be used by our doctors to measure the amount of light scattering as it reaches your eyes and your quality of vision.

Dilated Eye Exam

In order to see the lens and retinas in the back of your eyes, our doctors will use a solution to widen your pupils. Once your pupils are fully dilated, refraction measures will be performed. This allows our specialists to obtain more precise readings and validate the results of the initial refraction.

Front of Your Eyes

Our specialists will evaluate the micron-level health of your eye tissue with the aid of high-resolution scans. A number of high-resolution digital scanners that take pictures of the surface of your eyes and the lens will be examined by you. With the use of these scans, our specialists may assess the condition of your eyelids, your cornea, the surface tear film, and any early indicators of cataract development. Comprehensive information regarding the curvature, shape, and thickness of your cornea is also provided by the high-resolution scans.

Inside + Surface of Your Eyes

We’ll employ cutting-edge technology to capture detailed images of your retinas or the inner eye structure. Your retina plays a crucial role in processing light and transmitting signals to your brain for vision. By analyzing these images, our medical experts can gauge the condition and functionality of your retina. Furthermore, we’ll assess the composition and quantity of your tear film to ensure it’s optimal for LASIK surgery.

Other Eye Measurements

Our medical professionals employ advanced microscopy to thoroughly analyze the intricate structure of your eyes, uncovering any potential hidden issues. Throughout this examination phase, our experts meticulously search for indicators of various conditions, including diabetes, allergies, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. Additionally, we meticulously measure key dimensions of your eyes, including length, width, and pupil size, to ensure comprehensive assessment and care.

Are You a Candidate?

During our LASIK consultations, our medical team carefully assesses your suitability for LASIK surgery. We provide comprehensive education to each patient, explaining the reasons behind our recommendations and discussing the potential advantages and drawbacks of LASIK surgery. Here are some key factors our doctors take into account when evaluating your candidacy:
  • Age
  • General Health
  • Eye Health
  • Eye Problems
  • Eye Injury
  • Nursing or Pregnancy
  • Dry Eye Condition
