Pre-Surgical Care

Are you scheduled for eye surgery? Receiving top-notch pre-operative care is crucial for maximizing the success of your procedure. Our doctors meticulously confirm your eligibility and check for any new issues that may have arisen in the weeks leading up to the surgery, ensuring your suitability for the procedure.

Cataracts

Once your cataract surgery is scheduled, meticulously following pre-surgical instructions is essential to ensure you are fully prepared. During your appointment, we will review all your current medications in detail. You may be advised to discontinue certain medications, such as blood thinners or those related to prostate health. Adhering to these recommendations is crucial for a smooth and successful surgery day.

  • Stop wearing contacts two weeks before surgery
  • Bring a driver to your appointment
  • Fast for a minimum of twelve hours before surgery if being sedated
  • Use pre-operative eye drops three days before surgery
  • Wash hair the morning of surgery if needed

To choose the ideal shape for the intraocular lens that will replace your old lens, our specialists will take precise measurements of your eyes on the day of your procedure. This critical step ensures that you are a suitable candidate for the treatment and that any sedatives administered will not cause adverse side effects. These accurate measurements allow us to customize the procedure to meet your unique needs.

Glaucoma Surgery

Could untreated glaucoma lead to blindness? Yes, it can, by gradually damaging your eye’s optic nerve due to increased intraocular pressure from fluid buildup. Various surgical treatments are available for glaucoma, including shunt or implant implantation, selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT), and trabeculectomy. Prior to the surgery, a pre-surgical evaluation is necessary to ensure that the procedure chosen with your doctor is the most suitable for your condition.

  • Stop taking any blood thinners or flagged prescription medications
  • Take prescription antibiotic eye drops leading up to surgery
  • Limit food and beverages starting at midnight the day before your surgery
  • Bring a driver to your appointment
  • No make-up, moisturizers, or jewelry
  • Comfortable loose clothing

On the day of your surgery, it is imperative that you have made arrangements for transportation and that you have carefully followed all pre-operative instructions. Throughout the process, our professionals will be by your side to make sure you are in the best possible health and ready for your treatment.

LASIK

To fully understand the LASIK procedure, anticipate potential risks, and explore available options, it’s essential to carefully review all provided materials. While your LASIK consultation will offer insights into your eyes and lifestyle, a final exam is necessary to confirm your eligibility before surgery. If you decide to proceed with LASIK, it is important to follow these preparation guidelines:

  • Stop wearing contacts three weeks before surgery
  • Bring a driver to your appointment
  • Continue taking regular medications
  • No perfume or make-up
  • Eat a light breakfast or lunch
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing

Our professionals have established some essential guidelines to ensure a smooth surgical experience. You will receive instructions and comprehensive information specific to your needs after your LASIK procedure. You must carefully follow these instructions in order to be in the best possible condition for your LASIK treatment.

Post-Surgical Care

To achieve optimal vision and ensure a full recovery after surgery, post-surgical care is essential. In the weeks following your treatment, our doctors will monitor your eye health, ensure you receive the appropriate medication and care, and address any questions or concerns you may have.

Cataracts

Make your travel plans in advance because following cataract surgery, you won’t be able to drive for 24 hours. You will also receive a pair of sunglasses that you should always wear to shield your eyes from dust, sunshine, and other pollutants.

  • Wear provided eye shields as you sleep for three nights following surgery
  • Get plenty of rest to promote proper healing
  • Relax and don’t overexert yourself
  • Take prescription antibiotic eye drops and anti-inflammatories
  • Take prescription pain relief if applicable
  • Avoid bending and any sudden movements for three days following surgery

As you recover, our professionals will offer guidance on how to care for and clean your eyes. Adhering to these instructions is crucial for achieving the best possible surgical outcome.

Glaucoma Surgery

Depending on the type of operation you and your doctor have selected, you may spend three to four hours at the treatment center on the day of your appointment. Recovery times might range from three to six weeks, depending on the complexity of the treatment.

  • Avoid rubbing or scratching your eyes
  • Take all prescription medication provided by your doctor
  • Avoid heavy lifting and excessive activity
  • Avoid swimming pools

The eye patch will be taken off, your intraocular pressure will be measured, and your vision will be assessed at your follow-up appointment the following morning. Following the surgery, you will receive comprehensive instructions on how to take any prescribed medicine and take care of yourself.

LASIK

You should begin to notice visual improvements immediately after the LASIK procedure, which is completed quickly. Blurry vision is common right after the treatment but will clear up as you rest. It is recommended to follow these guidelines for those undergoing LASIK surgery

  • Utilize eye drops as recommended
  • Do not rub or squeeze your eyes for a week following surgery
  • Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes at all times
  • Wear provided eye shields as you sleep for three nights following surgery
  • Avoid make-up and cosmetics for one week following surgery
  • Do not use hot tubs or pools for one week following surgery
  • Refrain from sports and exercise for one week following surgery

To ensure that your eyes heal as well they can, you must attend all of your post-operative checkups. Our doctors will do a comprehensive eye exam during these appointments to make sure the LASIK procedure was successful, and your eyes are healing appropriately.
