Join our Social Media Community for latest updates

Maple Grove has grown into one of the largest, most family-heavy suburbs in the state, with the Osseo district schools, North Memorial’s hospital, and more shopping than just about anywhere outside Bloomington, so you have eye doctors close to home. We are about twenty to twenty-five minutes south. People still make the trip, and if you are weighing an optometrist near Maple Grove against the drive, the rest of this page is meant to help you decide. Art of Optiks has been an independent practice since 2001, and for the northwest metro, our Wayzata office is often the closer of our two locations.

Eye Care Services for Maple Grove Patients

Whichever office you choose, families turn to us for the full range of care:

Comprehensive Eye Examinations

For vision and eye health.

Pediatric Eye Care

For infants, children, and teens.

Vision Therapy

For eye teaming, tracking, and focus.

Contact Lens Fittings

Including toric, multifocal, scleral, hybrid, RGP, and Ortho-K.

Corneal Refractive Therapy

For non-surgical vision correction during sleep.

LASIK Consultations

To review whether you are a good candidate.

Pre and Post-Surgical Eye Care

Before and after surgery.

Ocular Disease Management

For glaucoma, dry eye, and macular degeneration.

Urgent Care Services

For eye injuries, infections, and sudden vision changes.

The Maple Grove families who drive to us usually do it for one of two reasons: a specialty service like a hard-to-fit contact lens or ongoing eye disease care, or the eyewear, since our handmade and limited production frames are not the kind of thing you find at a mall optical counter.

What to Expect From an Optometrist Near Maple Grove

A complete exam is the same careful process for every age in the family. Your optometrist reviews your history and vision, measures your prescription, then studies the health of the eye with retinal imaging and an optic nerve assessment, screening for glaucoma, cataracts, and diabetic eye disease that often appear before any symptoms.

Because the eye lets a doctor view your blood vessels directly, the exam can also catch early signs of diabetes or high blood pressure. We explain everything in plain language before you go.

Plan on an eye checkup every one to two years as an adult, and yearly for kids, contact lens wearers, and anyone managing diabetes.

Why Choose Art of Optiks

Art of Optiks is an independent, doctor-owned eye clinic, founded in 2001 by Timothy Haupert, OD, and Stephanie Haenes, ABOC. If you are going to drive a bit, it should buy you something, and what it buys here is time with an eye doctor who is not watching the clock, plus work finished in our own lab.

  • Board-certified optometrists who diagnose and manage eye conditions, not just run a screening
  • Retinal imaging in routine exams to set a baseline and track changes over the years
  • An in-house lab and on-site technicians for reliable lens quality and faster turnaround
  • A curated eyewear collection of independent designers that you will not find at a chain
  • A 4.9-star rating across more than 200 Google reviews

We are in network with VSP, EyeMed, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medica, HealthPartners, and UnitedHealthcare, and open access for most plans, including Davis and Spectera. Call, and we will verify your coverage before your visit.

Getting to Our Office from Maple Grove

Our 50th & France office is on France Avenue, between Anthropologie and Caribou Coffee. From Maple Grove, that is about twenty to twenty-five minutes by way of I-494 east and France Avenue south, or Highway 169 south.

Free customer parking sits directly behind and underneath the building, with entry from France Ave and 49½ Street or from 50th Street. For most of Maple Grove, though, our Wayzata office off Lake Street is the shorter drive, and you get the same doctors and the same care.

The expertise of Dr. Whitman was excellent/thorough, surpassing the optometry skills/knowledge within my eye doc's office...hmmm. I have a very difficult prescription or so it seems as I have been to many eye drs over the last few years just trying to see well! I was thrilled with the eye exam and help finding a new pair of glasses! I will be calling the Art of Optiks my new complete eye care home. I am very relieved to have found a place I can trust for my eyecare.

This business is very professional and has a very nice selection of frames. But what is most critical to me is how thorough the eye exam was and how modern the machines seemed. We all know the importance of healthy eyes. I am very impressed with the doctor and she is in the process of putting my eyes through a series of appointments to evaluate them and get a crystal clear picture of what is up with them. She seems extremely competent and I feel comfortable recommending this business and I am relieved to have found them myself.

I have been a patient at Art of Optiks for the last two years and for the first time I actually look forward to my annual eye exam. Dr. Hollenbach is thorough, explains things and is always willing to answer any questions. Dr. Hollenbach and the rest of the staff are transparent regarding what my insurance will cover and what I can expect to pay, even advising me on how best to use my vision benefits. I recently bought glasses here and the staff provided great suggestions and overall a great experience.

In the last two weeks I have been to six optical stores looking for a fun pair of frames. With a narrow bridge I have to have nose pads. But with a thick prescription I need frames that hide that thickness. Finding something that looks good and will function properly is difficult. I walked into art optics and the 1st 1 pair of glasses she picked were the best I had tried on in two weeks. But then she changed her mind and grabbed a second pair. They were absolutely perfect. We tried a variety of others but she knew best. They came home with me and I am a very happy camper!!!

The optometry exam is thorough, convenient and efficient. While the frame selection is my favorite, the exam is my first here, but I’m very happy with the service.

I had a fantastic experience with Dr. Whitman last week for an acute eye issue! To my surprise, she got me in same day for an exam (even as a new patient to the clinic). I was so impressed with the customer service and the detailed exam, and felt a huge big sense of relief to get clear answers and solutions to my concern. Dr. Whitman even called the next day to follow up. Highly recommend, and I’ll definitely be going back!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an Art of Optiks closer to Maple Grove?

Yes. Our Wayzata office on Lake Street is usually a shorter drive from Maple Grove than 50th & France, and it is staffed by the same doctors with the same services. Pick whichever works for your day.

Why would I drive to 50th & France instead?

Some patients prefer that office for its eyewear collection or a specific appointment time. Either way, the clinical care is identical, so distance is really the only thing to weigh.

Do you see kids and teens?

Yes. We provide pediatric eye care for every age, including young children who are not yet reading, and we are comfortable with nervous first-timers. A first exam is generally recommended around age three.

Can you handle hard-to-fit contact lenses?

Yes. Along with daily and monthly lenses, we fit toric lenses for astigmatism, multifocals, and specialty options like scleral, hybrid, RGP, and Ortho-K, with training for new wearers.

Do you accept vision insurance?

Yes. We are in network with VSP, EyeMed, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medica, HealthPartners, and UnitedHealthcare, and open access for most plans, including Davis and Spectera. Call (612) 440-2020 to confirm your benefits.
