Hopkins has the feel of a small, walkable town inside a big metro, the kind of place where the dentist, the coffee shop, and the eye doctor all feel like they should be close by. We nearly are. If you are looking for an optometrist in Hopkins, Art of Optiks is about ten minutes east at our 50th & France office, an easy drive down Excelsior Boulevard or Highway 7. We see every age, we keep room for same-day eye problems, and we have done this since 2001. New patients are always welcome.
For eye injuries, infections, and sudden vision changes.
Because we are close, our urgent care is worth knowing about. A red, painful, or suddenly blurry eye is not something to sit on, and a short drive to an eye doctor beats a long wait in a general urgent care or ER for most eye problems. Call, and we will try to see you the same day.
What to Expect From an Optometrist in Hopkins
A good exam takes a little time and looks at more than your prescription. Your optometrist reviews your history and your vision, measures your prescription, and then examines the eye itself with retinal imaging and an optic nerve assessment. That is where glaucoma, cataracts, and diabetic eye disease usually turn up first, often before any symptoms.
And since the eye is the one spot a doctor can see your blood vessels directly, a routine eye checkup can flag early signs of diabetes or high blood pressure, too. You will leave knowing what we found, in plain terms.
Most adults are due every one to two years, and yearly for kids, contact lens wearers, and anyone with diabetes.
Why Choose Art of Optiks
Art of Optiks is an independent, doctor-owned eye clinic, founded in 2001 by Timothy Haupert, OD, and Stephanie Haenes, ABOC. For a close-in neighbor like Hopkins, the draw is having a real, independent eye doctor a few minutes away instead of a rotating cast at a chain counter, plus a lab on site to keep things moving.
Board-certified optometrists who diagnose and manage eye conditions, not just run a screening
Retinal imaging in routine exams to catch changes early
An in-house optical lab and dedicated technicians for dependable lens quality and faster turnaround
A 4.9-star rating across more than 200 Google reviews
We are in network with VSP, EyeMed, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medica, HealthPartners, and UnitedHealthcare, and open access for most plans, including Davis and Spectera. Call, and we willverify your coverage before your visit.

great place for eye care/glasses.... from making the appt to completion they are efficient; flexible. The expertise of Dr. Whitman was excellent/thorough, surpassing the optometry skills/knowledge within my eye doc's office...hmmm. I wouldn't hesitate to have Art of Optiks be part of your eye care plan!
I have a very difficult prescription or so it seems as I have been to many eye drs over the last few years just trying to see well! I was thrilled with the eye exam and help
finding a new pair of glasses! I will be calling the Art of Optiks my new complete eye care home. I am very relieved to have found a place I can trust for my eyecare.
This business is very professional and has a very nice selection of frames. But what is most critical to me is how thorough the eye exam was and how modern the machines seemed. We all know the importance of healthy eyes. I am very impressed with the doctor and she is in the process of putting my eyes through a series of appointments to evaluate them and get a crystal clear picture of what is up with them. She seems extremely competent and I feel comfortable recommending this business and I am relieved to have found them myself.
I have been a patient at Art of Optiks for the last two years and for the first time I actually look forward to my annual eye exam. Dr. Hollenbach is thorough, explains things and is always willing to answer any questions. Dr. Hollenbach and the rest of the staff are transparent regarding what my insurance will cover and what I can expect to pay, even advising me on how best to use my vision benefits. I recently bought glasses here and the staff provided great suggestions and overall a great experience.
Excellent customer service and Dr Victoria really cares about giving you the best possible results and final product. Amazing product selection and atmosphere. Recommended Wayzata location.
I love this place. They care. They give you excellent help even if you’re not buying glasses and just stop in for a quick adjustment. They have an excellent curated selection of frames. Support our local business, they deserve it!
Always a top-notch staff from the exams to picking out new frames. They have the latest boutique styles that put them above the rest. Never had e I had a problem with glasses from here - all very durable and fashionable.
In the last two weeks I have been to six optical stores looking for a fun pair of frames. With a narrow bridge I have to have nose pads. But with a thick prescription I need frames that hide that thickness. Finding something that looks good and will function properly is difficult. I walked into art optics and the 1st 1 pair of glasses she picked were the best I had tried on in two weeks. But then she changed her mind and grabbed a second pair. They were absolutely perfect. We tried a variety of others but she knew best. They came home with me and I am a very happy camper!!!
The optometry exam is thorough, convenient and efficient. While the frame selection is my favorite, the exam is my first here, but I’m very happy with the service.
Great customer service, friendly staff, nice clinic and in a nice location. Dr. Whitman also went above and beyond to help my mom get a contact lens that alot of places normally don't specialize in, very grateful for her help.
Dr.Whitman was professional, helpful and overall a delight. She helped ease and calm my anxiety as well. I highly recommend visiting art of optiks for any current or future eye issues / glasses needs.
I had a very positive experience getting an eye exam with Dr. Brett Hollenbach. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, and easy to work with. I would recommend him highly.
I had an eye issue happen on a Saturday that needed to be looked at right away. The lovely folks at Art of Optiks got me right in and got me checked out. Super friendly people, so helpful. They are now going to be my go-to ophthalmologist from now on! Highly recommend.
I had something stuck in my eye that I couldn’t wash out. Dr Whitman was able to see me, who’s not even a patient there, right before they closed on a Saturday. The staff is super knowledgeable & friendly, providing an overall a great experience
Doctor Whitman always cares about my eyes and has suggestions for their care. New diagnostic equipment keeps arriving making the best diagnostics possible. The friendly staff and eye ware selection has kept me a patient for many years.
I had a fantastic experience with Dr. Whitman last week for an acute eye issue! To my surprise, she got me in same day for an exam (even as a new patient to the clinic). I was so impressed with the customer service and the detailed exam, and felt a huge big sense of relief to get clear answers and solutions to my concern. Dr. Whitman even called the next day to follow up. Highly recommend, and I’ll definitely be going back!
