Bloomington runs on work. Between the Mall of America and the headquarters of HealthPartners, Toro, and Donaldson, the city packs in more jobs per capita than Minneapolis itself. The catch with a busy schedule is that an eye exam is easy to put off. That is the nice thing about choosing an optometrist in Bloomington at 50th & France: we are a straight shot about ten minutes up France Avenue, so a visit fits around your day rather than eating it. Art of Optiks has served the area since 2001, and we are taking new patients.
Eye Care Services for Bloomington Patients
Working adults, retirees, and families all turn to us for the same range of care:
For eye injuries, infections, and sudden vision changes.
If you spend your day at a screen, ask about dry eye and digital strain at your eye exam. And if you get something in your eye or your vision changes suddenly, call us, because our urgent care can often see you the same day rather than sending you to a long wait elsewhere.
What to Expect From an Optometrist in Bloomington
A thorough exam does not have to be a slow one. Your optometrist reviews your history and vision, measures your prescription, and then checks the health of the eye with retinal imaging and an optic nerve assessment. That is where glaucoma, cataracts, and diabetic eye disease tend to show up first, often before any symptoms.
Since the eye is the one place a doctor can see your blood vessels directly, the visit can also surface early signs of diabetes or high blood pressure. You will leave with a clear, plain language summary and a plan.
Most adults need an eye checkup every one to two years, and yearly if you wear contacts, have diabetes, or have a family history of eye disease.
Why Choose Art of Optiks
Art of Optiks is an independent, doctor-owned eye clinic, founded in 2001 by Timothy Haupert, OD, and Stephanie Haenes, ABOC. Because we are not a high-volume chain, your eye doctor actually sits with you, and our in-house lab handles much of the lens work on site, which means fewer return trips for people who are short on time.
Board-certified optometrists who diagnose and manage eye conditions, not just run a screening
Retinal imaging in routine exams to track your eye health over the years
An in-house lab and on-site technicians for precise lenses and faster turnaround on many orders
Acurated eyewear collection of handmade and limited production frames that you will not find at a chain store
A 4.9-star rating across more than 200 Google reviews
We are in network with VSP, EyeMed, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medica, HealthPartners, and UnitedHealthcare, and open access for most plans, including Davis and Spectera. Call, and we willverify your coverage before you arrive.

This practice, their expertise, service, and their selection of beautiful frames, is of the highest quality. We have been customers for years and have done enough business with them to know that they consistently provide excellent service with eye exams, eye care, selections of new frames, and ongoing service for all of one’s needs to keep the glasses in excellent shape.
I highly recommend Dr. Whitman and her incredible team. The care there is of high level from reception to checkout. Dr. Whitman is very kind and does a wonderful job explaining recommended changes and/or treatment!
great place for eye care/glasses.... from making the appt to completion they are efficient; flexible. The expertise of Dr. Whitman was excellent/thorough, surpassing the optometry skills/knowledge within my eye doc's office...hmmm. I wouldn't hesitate to have Art of Optiks be part of your eye care plan!
I have a very difficult prescription or so it seems as I have been to many eye drs over the last few years just trying to see well! I was thrilled with the eye exam and help
finding a new pair of glasses! I will be calling the Art of Optiks my new complete eye care home. I am very relieved to have found a place I can trust for my eyecare.
I have been a patient at Art of Optiks for the last two years and for the first time I actually look forward to my annual eye exam. Dr. Hollenbach is thorough, explains things and is always willing to answer any questions. Dr. Hollenbach and the rest of the staff are transparent regarding what my insurance will cover and what I can expect to pay, even advising me on how best to use my vision benefits. I recently bought glasses here and the staff provided great suggestions and overall a great experience.
Excellent customer service and Dr Victoria really cares about giving you the best possible results and final product. Amazing product selection and atmosphere. Recommended Wayzata location.
I love this place. They care. They give you excellent help even if you’re not buying glasses and just stop in for a quick adjustment. They have an excellent curated selection of frames. Support our local business, they deserve it!
Always a top-notch staff from the exams to picking out new frames. They have the latest boutique styles that put them above the rest. Never had e I had a problem with glasses from here - all very durable and fashionable.
In the last two weeks I have been to six optical stores looking for a fun pair of frames. With a narrow bridge I have to have nose pads. But with a thick prescription I need frames that hide that thickness. Finding something that looks good and will function properly is difficult. I walked into art optics and the 1st 1 pair of glasses she picked were the best I had tried on in two weeks. But then she changed her mind and grabbed a second pair. They were absolutely perfect. We tried a variety of others but she knew best. They came home with me and I am a very happy camper!!!
The optometry exam is thorough, convenient and efficient. While the frame selection is my favorite, the exam is my first here, but I’m very happy with the service.
Great customer service, friendly staff, nice clinic and in a nice location. Dr. Whitman also went above and beyond to help my mom get a contact lens that alot of places normally don't specialize in, very grateful for her help.
Dr.Whitman was professional, helpful and overall a delight. She helped ease and calm my anxiety as well. I highly recommend visiting art of optiks for any current or future eye issues / glasses needs.
I had a very positive experience getting an eye exam with Dr. Brett Hollenbach. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, and easy to work with. I would recommend him highly.
I had an eye issue happen on a Saturday that needed to be looked at right away. The lovely folks at Art of Optiks got me right in and got me checked out. Super friendly people, so helpful. They are now going to be my go-to ophthalmologist from now on! Highly recommend.
I had something stuck in my eye that I couldn’t wash out. Dr Whitman was able to see me, who’s not even a patient there, right before they closed on a Saturday. The staff is super knowledgeable & friendly, providing an overall a great experience
Schedule an Eye Exam in Bloomington
When you are ready for an eye exam or want an optometrist in Bloomington who will not rush you, we are glad to help. Book online or call (612) 440-2020. Saturday and weekday evening hours make it easier to come in around work; new patients are welcome, and we accept most major vision and medical insurance plans.
A comprehensive exam usually runs thirty to sixty minutes, depending on the testing involved. We will tell you what to expect when you book, and a contact lens fitting may add a little time.
Can I come in around work, like on a lunch break or a Saturday?
Yes. We are open weekdays until 6:00 PM and Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and we are only about ten minutes from France Avenue. Booking ahead is the best way to grab a tight window.
My eyes feel tired and dry from screens all day. Can you help?
Yes. Digital eye strain and dry eye are common, and we will look at the cause during your exam and talk through real fixes rather than guesswork. Bring it up, and we will work it into the visit.
Will my eyes be dilated?
Sometimes. Dilation gives a fuller view of the retina, and your optometrist will let you know if it is needed. We also use retinal imaging, which can reduce how often it is necessary.
Do you accept vision insurance?
Yes. We are in network with VSP, EyeMed, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medica, HealthPartners, and UnitedHealthcare, and open access for most plans including Davis and Spectera. Call (612) 440-2020 to confirm your benefits.
