Schedule Your Eye ExamA comprehensive eye exam assesses your visual system and eye health with thorough testing. Unlike a simple vision screening, our comprehensive eye exams utilize state-of-the-art equipment to do a complete evaluation of the health of your eyes and your vision. Our office partners with a wide array of insurance companies such as VSP, Eyemed, BCBS, Medica, Health Partners, United Health Care, and many more. We are open access providers for most vision plans including Davis and Spectera.
Patient health history is a vital component of your comprehensive eye exam. Providing accurate information will notify our doctors of any conditions that should be recorded, such as current or family history of systemic or eye pathology, allergies to any medications, or environmental conditions that could be impacting your vision and ocular health.
Utilizing the Snellen Eye Chart, our doctors will test the sharpness of your vision and how well you can see from a distance. While seated at a standard distance, you will be asked to read letters or symbols of various sizes, which get smaller as you move down the chart. Your visual acuity is tested to measure how clearly you see in each eye with or without your corrective lenses. For children, non verbal or bilingual patients we utilize many different charts, symbols and techniques..
That “one or two” game we all have played at our eye doctor is better known as refraction. Refraction informs us of the prescription lens that will correct your eyesight to achieve our top priority — the best visual outcome. Our doctors use their expertise to find the perfect balance of clarity and comfort Ultimately, we want you to be comfortable in your prescription in all situations. Our doctors will also test how your eyes function as a team in order to ensure your vision can appropriately meet your daily visual demands.
Our doctors will conduct a screening test to rule out color blindness, hereditary color vision deficiencies, and any possible eye health issues that may affect your color vision in the future. Not only do we utilize the standard Ishihara color plates testing, but we also incorporate a variety of other state-of-the-art techniques to ensure that your eye health is as it should be!
The most imperative aspect of a comprehensive exam is to check the overall health of your eyes. We offer a variety of tests to identify any existing or potential developing ocular conditions and diseases located in the internal and external portions of the eye. If not diagnosed, these defects can have lasting effects on your vision and general health.
We evaluate the front and back of the eye, utilizing our slit-lamp. This instrument, accompanied by a high-intensity light, allows our doctors to examine the internal and external parts of the eye in-depth. On every slit lamp in our office we have a DSLR MVC camera. Captured images allow our doctors to create an educational experience for you while identifying ocular concerns such as cataracts, conjunctivitis, glaucoma, melanoma, and carcinomas as well as many other conditions.
Early detection and treatment of eye diseases are crucial for preserving and maintaining excellent vision for your future. We firmly believe that education plays a vital role in patient’s compliance to annual eye exams, which are critical when preventing potential vision loss. The eyes are the only place you can see inside the body without surgery, giving us an incredible window into the health of the body as a whole. Potential systemic conditions that can be diagnosed at an eye exam include: Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Melanoma, Lupus, Thyroid Abnormalities, and Cancer.
We are able to provide a thorough contact lens evaluation as a part of your comprehensive exam. During this process, our doctors will discuss your lifestyle and provide health considerations that may impact the type of contacts that work best for you. New innovations are continually being created, and our doctors look forward to utilizing the newest technology to meet your needs. Some of the lenses we offer at our practice are: Daily Disposables, Monthly Disposables, Toric Lenses for Astigmatism, Multifocals, Monovision, Toric Multifocals, Scleral Lenses, Ortho-Keratology, RGPs, Hybrid Lenses.
If you have never worn contact lenses before, or it has simply been a while, we offer a one-on-one class. We understand that transitioning to contacts can be intimidating and often uncomfortable if you are unaware of best practices. We happily offer insertion and removal training with our skilled technicians to improve our patient’s comfort and confidence with contact lens use.
