How do I clean my eyeglass lenses? (my glasses are always dirty)
With the advent of the new and improved anti-reflective coatings, lenses are easier than ever to clean. It only takes a couple quick and easy steps for eyewear to remain streak and grime free.
- spray lenses on both sides with an ANTI-REFLECTIVE approved spray. If you purchase your glasses at Art of Optiks, you receive UNLIMITED cleaner refills if you bring back the original bottle.
- wipe the lenses with a lint free cotton cloth, not the shirt you are wearing. Better, use an old t-shirt that is not worn anymore and has not been laundered in fabric softener.
- DO NOT use paper products or pre-moistened wipes of any kind. The Breath Method DOES NOT COUNT as cleaning.
- Your microfiber cleaning cloth is to be used only as a polishing cloth and only after you have wet cleaned your lenses. Otherwise you risk scratching the surface of your eyewear. Do not use your microfiber cloth with your spray. They are two different methods of cleaning.
Tips for maintaining my eyewear...
- Keep them in your case when they are not on your face. Dogs, cats, children-they all love eyewear and in our option they are equally destructive when it comes to eyewear.
- Remove your precious eyewear with two hands. They will wear evenly this way.
- Never leave your eyewear in your car. Minnesota is a state of extremes. Your car can reach temperatures of 140 degrees in the summer and -30 in the winter. Imagine what this can do to plastic...
- Be mindful of your eyewear. Never place them where they could be stepped or sat on.
- Never set your glasses down in a restaurant.
Warranties Warranties Warranties...what DO you cover?
- Frames and lenses are covered against manufacturing defects for one year. This would not include things like the dog eating them, running them over with a car or stepping on them.
- When in doubt, please come in as soon as possible. Don't wait. We want to help you if we can.
- Never try to repair them on your own. This voids any and all warranties that may have been on the eyewear. This would include things like superglue, gorilla glue, super bond, and any other form of adhesive that we are unaware of.
Adjustments and Repairs-What about that?
- Adjustments to your eyewear are always complimentary. If your glasses are not fitting properly, please stop in. Do not suffer in silence. It is amazing what a small adjustment can do for your eyewear.
- Repairs of minor items such as nose pads, screws and temple tips are complementary. Also, if you sit or step or smash your eyewear in any way, we will do our very best to return your glasses to their original condition-free of charge. However, if you require more in depth servicing, such as a new part (temple, hinge, frame front, etc...) you will be charged appropriately.
Anti-Reflective coating and you-the love hate relationship.
15 years ago there was a product on the market that ruined it for opticians everywhere. The Anti-Reflective coating back then was so green it was like being in the Emerald City.. You couldn't clean it. Everything in a 5 mile radius of your lenses stuck to it. Any patient that was in that coating back then runs the other way when anti-reflective coatings are mentioned in their presence.
Things have changed people! The coatings of today are hydrophobic. Everything rolls right off them. No more static cling. They are easy to clean. They are durable. No more Emerald City either (unless you want that). And best yet, the coating helps block 96% of reflections you receive from computer screens, florescent lights, oncoming headlights and other glare conditions.. At Art of Optiks 98% of our patient wear anti-reflective coatings, adults and children alike.
